Summary: Excellent Picture Quality
Comment: I have been using this TV for about a month and a half now. I used this product mainly with Samsung Blu Ray player using HDMI cable connection. The picture quality is just superb. Besides, the on screen menu is easy to understand and it required minimum deviations from default factory setting.

The only minor complain I have is the sensitivity of the remove control unit. I have to point directly at the TV in order for it to work. Other than that, this Samsung TV is as good as it get.

Summary: Amazing TV - After owning it for 3 days!
Comment: After I planned to buy an LCD TV, I did lot of research and finally the selection was between Sony 52'' XBR and Samsung LN52A650. However on further analysis, I found that LN52A650 TV was almost equal to Sony in all aspect and is the best value for the money. One option I liked was that this TV has an Optical digital Audio output which I think is really cool when using audio receiver. However the TV outputs 5.1 channel audio only while using ON-AIR (antenna) signal. If the source is digital (dvd, cable) the out put is just 2 channel stereo.

Amazon had the best deals on this TV compared to any other reliable retailers. They shipped the TV the very next day. I was notified that the TV has been shipped via Pilot shipping service.

This is where things started changing.I called Pilot after 3 days to check on the package and they informed that they will be delivering it on Monday and they will be sending two guys since it is a white glove service. Even then, I planned to be at home during delivery and that turned out to be a very good decision. Even after confirmation, they sent only one guy for delivery. I had to help him to lift the 109 lb package. Secondly, I saw a huge hole on the box at the bottom right corner and gashes on the sides. My initial thought was that the LCD must have been damaged. There were couple of holes even on the inside cover. However I couldn't notice any damage/scratches on the panel. Since it was cold outside, he suggested me that I wait for at least 4 hours before switching on the TV.

That was the longest four hours I have spent for quiet sometime now. When I finally switched on the TV, I simply couldn't believe the amazing HD pictures. Both I and my wife were blown over by the clarity and the richness of the picture. If you are a fense sitter, I would suggest you buy this TV in a heart beat. Definitely worth the money.

However I did notice scratches on the stand and the bezel. I called Amazon (1-866 423-5355) about this and they promptly offered 1) to replace the TV or 2) Discount on the sale price.

Even though there were some incidents, I would definitely buy from Amazon. They have a very friendly CSR and they tend to take care of issues very quickly.

AddOn: I am planning to buy the 5 yrs extended service warranty from samsung again on Amazon. I think it is better to have such an insurance on such a large investment. When I called samsung about the service, they said that it is in-home service for all TV's above 32''.

Summary: everything CR said it would be!
Comment: as I usually do when I make a major purchase, I researched LCDs on Consumer Reports and this was rated the highest (82/100). It really does have the best picture on the market. We also later bought a Samsung blu-ray player and love the Anynet feature which automatically finds the player among all your components. It took a few days to hook up with the local shipper in Miami and a long day waiting around for them to deliver. Other than that we're very satisfied.

Summary: 52" of HD goodness.....
Comment: This was my first Amazon purchase over $200, and I couldn't be more satisfied. I researched for several months like many others, to learn as much as I could about the current specs and to see all the different models in person. I haven't owned a new tv since the 19" back in high school a decade ago (roommates won out), so I wanted something that would handle movies/computing/gaming for some time to come. I also knew that my father, who was shopping for his first HDTV, would more than likely go with my decision as well.

We picked his up Christmas Eve from Best Buy, along with the 32" Whalen corner stand. Unpacking and setup was easy enough, you simply pull out the two plastic retainers and the box lifts off. Cable coax directly from the wall, or hdmi from the cable box both have a great picture, no issues with cable box compatibility with Time Warner.

I ordered mine from Amazon on Dec. 26, and Pilot delivered it in a pickup truck on Dec. 31st, just in time to watch the Huskers beat Clemson the next day. Pilot probably did a better job than if I would have bought it from a retailer, as the box wasn't bent or gouged anywhere. I also didn't see any dead pixels or any other flaws in either of the 650's we bought this Christmas. For a stand I chose the Whalen BBL44BP from Best Buy, since Amazon didn't carry it, which is a 44" wide base with chrome reclining legs and black tempered glass.

The picture is incredible, and the tv itself is well made and looks great. It's not facing any windows in my house, so the glare is a non-issue. It did take me a little while to realize there are no buttons on the tv, instead in the lower right hand corner there is a touch sensitive pad for power/volume/channels. It will leave fingerprints using them, but they work fine.

Hooking up to the xbox360 via the component cables will give 1080p output, contrary to some of the rumors that you absolutely have to have the xbox hdmi cable to get above 1080i. I have the optical audio from both the tv and the xbox running to a Yamaha receiver.

Connecting to the computer via a standard VGA cable works great, and is perfectly readable from 8ft back at 1360x768 (slightly wider resolution than a standard widescreen monitor, which I normally ran at 1280x768 or 1440x900).

The backlight and brightness settings were a little brighter than they needed to be across the board, so after some minor changes everything looks great. The built in speakers are small, and sound as generic as I expected. They work fine for normal low to mid volume purposes, but lack the bass and midrange for movies or games. Not a big deal to me, so I normally turn them off or all the way down to let the receiver do the work.

Other tv functions include the ability to connect directly to a LAN for software upgrades, InfoLink news and weather, which is kind of nice, but a little redundant as it's already hooked to a computer. Same with the Wiselink USB port, which lets you plug in any usb music or picture storage device and browse through pictures or play mp3's.

I also haven't spent much time with the Automotion settings, or had anything that would output at 120hz to justify that aspect of the 650 over the 550. It did seem to help the clarity during standard dvd playback, when the background and foreground were moving at different speeds. Otherwise, I assume it's something that will be taken advantage of more in the future, or with a bluray player to eliminate the 3:2 pulldown inherent in 24fps film.

I compared this tv with several Sony's, and the LG70, before deciding on Samsung. The 750 series' extra software, and the 850's slimmer profile weren't worth the extra money, in my opinion. Assuming that I don't run into any unforeseen repairs, this seems to be an outstanding tv that I look forward to keeping for quite a while.
