Summary: Almost great
Comment: The speakers that work are great, the only problem is I can't get all of them to work. I am working on it now.

Summary: Ok for a first system
Comment: This is a good system, sounds good, simple to set up.
I do have a couple of complaints, 1) the system has no HD input, so if you want to upgrade to Blu-Ray later, or use your cable box, you have to switch between inputs on the TV. 2) the remote control is not programmable, and only works with a Sony TV, so you will need to keep both remotes handy.

Summary: Delivers a lot for the money
Comment: We finally upgraded to a large LCD television (Sony) that fit the spot in our family room perfectly. The picture amazed us, but the sound seemed only adequate compared to the stunning images. I'd looked around at surround sound systems, but was discouraged by either the price (most often), the fancy speaker designs, or the manufacturer's reputation (cheap but likely to break). Finally, we needed a system that would "disappear" into our family room -- it's a very nice rustic room that we don't want to clutter up.
I came across this Sony package, and was intrigued. The speakers are simple, the design minimalist, and the manufacturer trusted (same as our new TV). Then I looked at the price, and after deliberating for a few hours, I took the plunge.
The box arrived two hours before we were scheduled to leave for an evening out. I cracked it open, and had it installed (except for some final touches to hide the wires better) and working before we left, total time about 70 minutes. The speakers tucked away easily. Even my wife, who defends the house's appearance above all else, approved.
The auto-calibration is a great feature. In my initial haste, I put the center speaker in a little wood storage alcove in our fireplace, then ran the calibration. The system sounded great, but after a few favorite scenes from movies, I realized having the center speaker down low wasn't working very well. I moved it up to the mantle, where it still hid away perfectly, and listened to a concert. The center speaker was being driven too much now. I ran the auto-calibration again with the new configuration, and listened to the same concert, and the sound was restored to its great blend again. It's a genius little piece of engineering.
The only complaint is that now I probably need a universal remote. But we'll see. Some functions are pretty obscure, and most functions can be handled easily by just pulling out one remote from the drawer.
All in all, a great system with excellent sound and impressive features for the price.
